IGaming is consolidated and grows in Spain. Sports betting and online casino are consolidated among spanish users in the first quarter of 2020. The net gaming margin (GGR), from January to March, was 217.97 million euros. This figure represents 17.65% more than the previous quarter and 12.47% more than in the same period of 2019, according to the quarterly report of the DGOJ.
Regarding the 217.97 million euros of net margin, 110 million euros, 50.4%, are obtained from sports betting. The casino for its part has obtained 77.59 million euros, 35.6% of the total. In third place is the poker that obtains 24.4 million euros. In fourth position was bingo, with 3.69 million euros and lastly the contests with 1.88 million euros.
Sports bets represent 50% of profits
The consumption of online entertainment has an increasing presence among the population and this is shown by the data. Undoubtedly, the digital entertainment that has grown the most is that of sports betting, where it has increased by 23.34% compared to the previous quarter and 8.65% compared to the same period in 2019. This increase is mainly due to conventional counterpart sports bets that have risen by 45.42%, and live by 10.77% compared to the last quarter of 2019.
The upward trend in sports betting is a reflection of what is also happening in online casinos. The casino has increased 8.27% compared to the previous quarter. Conventional and live roulette are the reason for this potential increase.
Contests double your results
If there is a segment of the game that has seen its results double, it is contests. In just three months they have registered 208.23% more than in the fourth quarter of 2019. However, the competition segment is quite irregular in recent years. In 2017 its annual presence decreased by -37.83%; and -80.20% in 2018. In 2019 there was an incredible rise of 368.97%.
The poker boom took place a few years ago and it continues to gradually add followers. From January to March 2020, poker has grown by 20.76% compared to the previous quarter and 13.10% compared to 2019.
And finally, bingo has increased by 12.44% and 14.69% compared to the same quarter of 2019.
118.24 million euros in marketing
Gambling operators increasingly use more resources to promote and publicize the casino or betting house. Thus, the marketing expenditure of companies was 118.24 million euros from January to March. It has meant an annual growth of 28.34%. Of the 118 million euros in marketing, 10.29 million euros have been allocated to affiliation expenses; in advertising it amounts to 59 million euros, those of sponsorship slightly more than 6 million euros, and in relation to promotions, 42.36 million euros.
