Merkurmagic stops operating in Spain on October 9
Through an email, Merkurmagic wanted to inform its players of the closure of its entertainment website in Spain. Since last September 11, Merkurmagic does not allow the registration of new users. Players who have their account active must withdraw their deposits before October 9 at 9 in the morning, although the operator recommends not waiting until the last minute. Sports betting can continue until October 5. The customer service will be active until November 6 through your email ([email protected]).
To this day the reasons that led the Gauselmann group to make this drastic decision are unknown. However, it is believed that the new Gaming Law that the Government plans to approve had an important weight in the decision. As of October, the announcements of gambling operators and bookmakers will be relegated to a night schedule. In addition, the use of famous people and athletes to advertise the brand is prohibited. And gambling operators will not be able to sponsor soccer teams, among other measures.
60 years of experience in the gaming sector
The German group Gauselmann has been part of the gaming sector since 1957. In 2016 they decided to launch their online casino. Besides Merkurmagic they also own Merkur Win, Merkur Spielcasino. Merkur has six game rooms in the Spanish territory: 5 rooms in Palma de Mallorca and one in Madrid. It currently has a presence in 90 countries.
Titanbet also closed in Spain
Last August it was the operator Titanbet who announced the closure in Spain as of September 11. Titanbet has been active since 2012, after obtaining a license from the Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling. They offered entertainment related to casino games, poker and sports betting.
The closure of Merkurmagic and Titanbet may be the beginning of the decline of a sector that is not going through its best period after the coronavirus health crisis and the Gaming Law pending approval. What is certain is that the closure of both operators will lead to the dismissal of dozens of workers. In addition to the reduction of income for the State through taxes and investments of these business groups in Spain.
